Q: It seems that many people discredit to the creation of Venom black metal as a subgenre of heavy metal in general the words "they invented the term" etc.

A: I love Venom, but damn, they were composers cheesedick. I laugh every time I see some Shiite Cronos scream evil and flip her hair back as if my girlfriend.

Welcome to Hell and Black Metal are badass.

Why is Venom labeled as Black Metal?
[2008-10-16 16:25:38]

I know they released an album called Black Metal, but I have heard the Black Metal song, and it doesn't sound black metal at all, except for the lyrics and lo-quality recording... It sounds more like a thrash or grindcore band than Black Metal...

Venom are black metal

They are part of the first wave of Black Metal, They coined the term with that song/album. Venom were initially a Motorhead type
Metallicas St. Anger rode a wave of dysfunction to the top of the charts
The songs accurately reflect the band’s state of mind when they were written and recorded, and they are presented with practically no sweetening or fancy studio trickery. It is raw, direct, and true.

Which band from the 70's or 80s would you say set the tone for death/black metal and other forms of evil musi?

by use of evil or dark lyrics?

I say Venom or Merciful Fate

I would go with Black Sabbath. They were the first to tune down the guitar for a that darker sound. They laid the foundation and many groups after them took it many steps further.
