How to measure shaft loads (Radial & Axial) by a dynamometer ?
[2008-06-24 00:19:27]

Hi,

Does anyone know how to measure the Radial and Axial loads at the red position of the shaft by using a dynamometer ?

I will use a milling machine to drive the shaft, if the other head of the shaft is put into the hole

It will rotate all right but not the way you think....I would not hook this up on a mill...something is going to give if the picture of your shaft is here: http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/38/55 ...
This is an eccentric. If you...

How can a pin be 'tangential'to the shaft surface?
[2009-03-25 01:23:51]

Tapered circular pins can be used to restrain shaft-mounted members from both axial and rotary movement. The pin fits snugly in a reamed tapered hole that is perpendicular to the shaft axis and either radial or tangential to the shaft surface. A number

That does sound weird, the pin (and hole) would be radial to the shaft, not tangential. Unless there is some part of that particular pin that would rest against the outside of the shaft, like a pull ring or something, but that still seems like an odd

Stress and Strain question?
[2010-02-08 12:18:52]

If you have a drive shaft made of steel and is designed to carry axial and torsional loads, this gives a 2 dimensional stress state which is the following
stress on the x dimension is 60MPa and stress in pure shear being 200MPa, i dont have a
